Lowlands (I)

Eventually after bumping over 3 miles of barely tarmacked byway I arrived at his house. Amazingly my sat nav truthfully exclaimed: you have arrived at your destination. Bang on. Just as well because up until this point there had barely been a tree, a shrub, a house or any form of landmark. Said phone box [...]

Djangology

So there I stood in front of the old Baptist church, contemplating being converted. Should I stay or should I go.

The Baptist Church, tucked behind the shops off Ely High Street, had been converted into a music shop and I was there to look at mandolins (they had nothing I fancied) . The door wasn’t [...]

Six Bells

Rather a good bluegrass session at The Six Bells last night. Not many people turned up but the few that were there were on grand form. This was the perfect occasion for me to use my groovy new recorder. I have a brain like a sieve and can never remember a tune for long. But [...]

Gig(II), Folk Fest & World Music

Once again another excellent and full weekend which may bore you if I go into too much detail. Just to say that L was due to come to my final mandolin gig on Friday evening with The Olds babysitting Yoda. But in the end they all came. Yoda looked over peoples heads from the back [...]

Hot Weekend Part 3: The Parade

“Twactors!”

His eyes oggled.

“Diesel!”

A number of farm vehicles rumbled by with various unrestrained small children waving from the back. Flapping paper signs declared their allegiance to a particular nursery or primary school. Meanwhile brass bands bashed through the village high street with a clear lack of majorettes. This was The Wheeliebinfen Feast Parade.

The mandolin gig [...]

Hot Weekend Part 2: The Gig

I am cursed.

Saturday evening I turn up on time for the last rehearsal before the gig. Nobody is there. So I start to get worried. The last gig (prior to me joining) was at the Baptist church. All our rehearsals are at the Baptist church. I know our gig is at “the church”. Surely it [...]

Tenko

[Sorry for the delay in posting this. Been a bit busy]
It has been blistering hot over the weekend. We dropped Yoda at The Olds and headed to Hyde Park for the Macca gig. I have to say I’m a bit of a misery guts and was all geared up for having my water bottle taken [...]

Golden Oldies

Off to see Paul McCartney at Hyde Park this weekend. I suspect for the small fortune we paid for the tickets we’ll be a speck in the distance watching it on some vast TV screen. If so then I think this is the last massive gig I’ll ever go to. The Stereophonics at The O2 [...]

New Toy

Finally caved in and bought a Zoom H2 audio recorder. I’ve fancied one of these for a few years now but could never justify the expense (see many previous posts concerning buying a recording MP3 player). I did get a rather nifty Philips thumb-sized recorder from Tesco for about £10 but the dynamic range sucks [...]

Hum About Mine Ears

Haven’t posted for a long time. I will when I get a moment free.

The post title is nothing to do with vuvuzelas. I now have a wall covered in mounted string instrument holders with suitable twangly strung boxes dangling from them. It is fab.

Anyway, more later.
