Burma

For those that know me, I have an interest in human rights in Burma (also known as Myanmar). This page is where I store all my public thoughts, links and resources for you to look at. Please take some time to read through whats here. You may find there is something you can do.

Useful Links

  • The AAPP(B) are a support group for former political prisoners from Burma. They are based in Thailand and do great work to support families of PPs and campaign for their release.
  • The Burma Campaign are a UK based political pressure group who lobby for democracy and human rights in Burma. They lobby for economic sanctions as a lever to force the SPDC to support a democratic system, end conflict and release political prisoners. They have been very successful in convincing lasrge multi nationals to pull out of Burma.
  • The Karen Human Rights Group is a small and independent group documenting the human rights situation of ordinary people in rural Burma.
  • Prospect Burma are a charity that supports the education of students from Burma.

Newspapers

  • The Irrawaddy is an English language newpaper based in Thailand that
    deals with news of Burma. Its very good indeed.
  • Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) a Burmese website based in Norway with news summaries in English.
    Usually pretty quick to print hot news. A very pro-democratic stance.
  • The New Light of Myanmar is Burma’s answer to Pravda. It is one of the SPDC English language “newspapers”.
  • The Myanmar Times is the other SPDC newspaper.
  • The Bangkok Post is Thailands leading English language newspaper.
