Booking

I managed to wangle 2 weeks off over Easter from work to go to Cyprus, only to discover that flights are rare as hens teeth and way too pricey. October is less than half price. October is cold here and pleasantly warm there. No brainer. I wonder if they’ll let me adjust me leave again.

I [...]

Dives and Lazarus

When ever I return from a long holiday my first question is: who has died? Someone famous usually keels over whilst I’m away. Jock Stein, Audrey Hepburn and now Paul Newman are all names that come to mind over the years.

I then proceed onto world affairs that I may have missed. Apart from the banking [...]

Pleasures of the Harbour

We’ve been away. Tripping up the steep Trudos Mountains and driving over the dusty plains of Famagusta all to show little Yoda-agi the land of his ancestors. Well one of them anyway. Being half Greek Cypriot and half Scottish where the Scottish half is probably three quarters Irish anyway.

He is lucky enough to have 2 [...]

Cypriot Telly

As Mo rightly pointed out, we have indeed been on our holidays. L and I flew off to Cyprus for a wedding but about 2 days in I contracted a sore throat and spent the actual wedding day in bed watching LTV, Mega, Sigma and RIK1/2. Cypriot telly is a strange thing. Comprising mostly of [...]

The Cataclysm

I’ve been away for a week in Cyprus and just back last night. The normally dry and dusty plane around Avgorou has been transformed by heavy winter rain. “Its been a good winter” says Pappou – a former potato farmer. “Its been a terrible winter” says Yiayia Anthonou. In all though, spring is in full [...]

Off to Cyprus

We’re off Cyprus at the weekend. Last minute holiday to see the Yiayias. Booked accommodation for £15 a night. Sorted! Thought we’d stay in Larnaca and save hassling the grandparents. That said, knowing them, they’ll prepare stuff anyway. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

I’ll be interested to hear what people say about the Turkish bit now [...]

Bikes and Bakewell Tarts

L and I took off for the Peak District at the weekend. After months of dull weather it was a scorcher. We couldn’t have timed it better. We drove all Friday evening to get to Cressbrook near Bakewell where we had super B&B in Cressbrook Hall. Very nice with a 4 poster bed and an [...]

Christos Annesti

Well, it was the Easter weekend. So I spent Good Friday and the next Saturday vegging. Telly, junk food and more telly. It was a slotharama. Meanwhile L started to paint the hall. She did the woodwork whilst i was supposed to be doing the high bits. But I was too pooped (i.e. lazy). So [...]

Flights

Dick flew in on Friday. He was heading out to Pau (France) on Saturday and stayed over. L was away visiting her family as her uncle died that day in Cyprus. Her dad flew out on Friday. It appears Cyprus follows the rather Muslim tradition of almost immediate burial. I guess its the climate. Anyway, [...]
